Diamonds in Wonderland: Launch of Alice in Wonderland Jewelry Collections

What jewelry would you wear to the Mad Hatter’s tea party? Disney just announced the launch of a new line of high-end fine jewelry inspired by the upcoming release of the remake of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, starring Johnny Depp. It’s just a sneak peek though, we still have a good chunk of time until the film’s premiere on March 5, 2010, and the simultaneous launch of the Alice in Wonderland jewelry collections, plus a high fashion line.

Top jewelry designer Tom Binns, and winner of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, collaborated with Disney to produce the first series in the collection. It actually features two lines – a high-end line and another more affordable one. ‘Tom Binns for Walt Disney Signature’ features six limited-edition jewelry pieces, ranging from $1000 to $3000, and will be available only from fine boutiques and luxury retailers. The ‘Tom Binns for Disney Couture’ features 35 pieces and will be available at specialty boutiques and department stores, with prices ranging from $50-$250.

The new Alice in Wonderland film is directed by Tim Burton, which promises a wild and stylish interpretation of Lewis Carroll’s cherished classic. Binn’s pieces are inspired by Alice’s mad-cap fantasy world of colorful and bizarre characters, favorites like the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat, the White Rabbit and Tweedledee and Tweedledum.

The couture line includes pendant necklaces, earrings, rings and more incorporating photo inlay with Swarovksi crystal accents and lace details. The limited edition signature line will be in the over-the-top, eclectic runway style that Tom Binns is so famous for.

And Binns is just the first is series of top cadre fine jewelry designers who will contribute their zany creativity to the Alice in Wonderland jewelry line. A host of other super chic and contemporary fine jewelry designers, yet to be announced, will lend their jewelry creations to the collection too.

The jewelry unveiling was celebrated with a surprise tea party at the MAGIC Marketplace in Las Vegas, a major fashion trade event. The crowd was in for a treat when costumed performers descended on the vestibule and staged an acrobatic show, dressed in the height of fantasy chic.

The film is sure to have a hefty influence on fashion trends in 2010, in jewelry, clothing and accessories, marked with Tim Burton’s lively gothic couture signature style.
