Christmas Day Blues: Tale of a Discarded Diamond Engagement Ring

I recently read an online story that put my holiday blues into perspective. In my opinion, there’s nothing worse than losing a loved-one on Christmas day.
Last December, during the 2008 Christmas holiday, an unidentified man left a $15,000 diamond engagement ring in the front seat of a seemingly randomly chosen, unlocked car parked at Westborough train station in western Massachusetts.
Attached to the jewelry box containing the expensive diamond engagement ring was the anonymous man’s profoundly heart-wrenching story typed onto a note which read: “…Thank you for leaving your car door unlocked. Instead of stealing your car I gave you a present. Hopefully this will land in the hands of someone you love, for my love is gone now. Merry Christmas to you.”
The stunning yet melancholy story of the ring caught the attention of the local community. An effort was made to find the original owner and discarder of the diamond engagement ring, yet no one has come forward to claim it.
The 3-stone diamond white gold engagement ring was later valued at $15,000 by jewelry and diamond experts, prompting the car owner to keep the diamond engagement ring, rather than turning it over to the authorities.
Once I finished reading the article, I almost decided never to lock my car door again. Thankfully, I snapped out of it!
