Wedding Bands and Engagement Rings Pay Off at Work
According to a recent publication by the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics, on average, the monthly salaries of married individuals are 16% higher than those of their divorced counterparts. So, before your next job interview, get yourself a nice wedding band or engagement ring as it might be worth a lot of money!
A few interesting facts that arose from this publication are as follows:
- It seems that married individuals are paid higher salaries than people who are divorced, and the latter earn more than bachelors. It is important to note that most bachelors (74%) were between 20 and 30 years of age, an age group in which the monthly salary is typically lower regardless of the marital status.
- Despite of the above-mentioned, divorced men earn slightly higher salaries than married men. Perhaps you should leave your men’s wedding ring at home after all…
- For women the opposite is true: Married women get significantly higher salaries than divorced women, who earn higher salaries than bachelorettes. Perhaps carrying a women’s wedding band or engagement ring in your pocket isn’t such a bad idea. Moreover, Married women get significantly higher salaries than divorced women, even though the latter tend to work on average half an hour more per working day.
But that’s Israel – right? Wrong! It seems that this set of statistics from the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics is quite indicative of the entire modern world.
Just a few examples:
On my way to work several months ago, I noticed the following (relatively odd) advertisement on an urban bus, showing a happily married couple with the woman wearing a beautiful diamond necklace and pearl earrings, supposedly an indication of their solid economic status:

I later learned that this was a campaign initiated by the Campaign For Our Children (CFOC).
A deeper internet research revealed that several years back, a Canadian research firm came up with similar results. Another website that I bumped into that indicated the same would be marriageworksusa.com.
I wonder if all these websites took into consideration the raising divorce rates and the accompanying costs. Hmmm…
