There seem to be so many different types of diamond cuts! But I know that some diamond cuts are much more common and much more popular than others, so what are the main types? I am studying goldsmithing and jewelry making, and I'd like to incorporate diamonds into some of the jewelry that I make, but I'd like to be clear on the most popular types of diamond cuts before I start shopping for loose diamonds.

There are a few main types of diamond cuts that are the most popular, although there are quite a few others that are rare to varying degrees. The most common diamond cut in the world is the round brilliant cut. The great majority of diamond stud earrings and diamond engagement rings somehow incorporate round brilliant cut diamonds. The second most popular cut is a recently developed cut called the Princess cut. A princess cut diamond is an inverted pyramid shape and has a square face with pointed corners. Another common cut is the Marquise cut diamond, which has an ovalur shape that comes to a point at both ends. Other popular cuts are the heart cut, pear cut, radiant cut, asscher cut and cushion cut.
