Valentine's Day is fast approaching and I am scrambling to find my girlfriend the perfect gift. I know that her birthstone is ruby and was thinking of getting her a pair of ruby studded earrings or a ruby set pendant. Do you think that ruby encrusted jewelry is too tacky a gift to give on Valentine's day? Are rubies on Valentine's Day too predictable?

Are you kidding? If my boy friend got me a pair of ruby studded earrings I would be happier than I've ever been. Your girlfriend is lucky. I love rubies, personally, they are probably my favorite gemstone. And studded rubies! Wow. Go for it! And happy valentines day! Still gotta figure out what to get my guy... Yikes!

Not at all. It is true that Valentine's day is most often associated with cheesy red heart-shaped cards and fluffy red and pink teddy bears but what could be more elegant than beautifully crafted, ruby jewelry. If you feel that the choice is too obvious on Valentine's day you could always go with equally stunning precious gemstones, such as sapphires, emeralds or diamonds, but I believe that a ruby is classic. Ruby pendant necklaces or ruby earrings are especially well suited for a Valentines Day gift.

I don't think rubies for Valentine's day are tacky at all! They are a great traditional gift of jewelry for Valentine's Day, but if you would like to get your loved one jewelry with different gemstones that are still red, then you might want to consider garnets. These gemstones are beautiful, red, and they're even a great anniversary gift as well since garnets are the traditional gemstone for the 2nd wedding anniversary. You could also opt for a diamond necklace with a ruby set in the center, for example. Valentine's Day is a day to be over the top in expressing your love, so I think you can never go too far with the red jewelry on this particular day. But if you're not sure how much your sweetheart would like to receive ruby jewelry on V-day, then I think choosing diamond jewelry set with a singly ruby would probably be your best bet. Good luck!
