I want to get my boyfriend a beautiful piece of jewelry as a very special birthday present, but I'm afraid to mess it up. I would like to know which specific types of metals are better to use for men's jewelry.

In my opinion, the best possible metals to use for men's jewelry are white gold, platinum or silver – all having very similar silverish color. These silver colored metals are by far most suitable for men and indeed the most popular as well. If you would like to make your gift extra special, I would suggest adding to the jewelry an impressive stone, such as black diamond. You'll be surprised to see that prices for black diamonds are not as high as you would expect, yet the striking effect black diamonds could give is incredible. It is known that black diamond jewelry is very popular amongst men's jewelry and thus could suit you as an appropriate birthday present. I am quite certain that your boyfriend will be completely ecstatic if he would receive a black diamond ring accented with a silver colored setting, I know I would.

Silvery white colored metals are more versatile and a lot less flashy, and when it comes to men's jewelry many men like toned-down or casual looking pieces. However, I think that if your man is into jewelry, and if he likes yellow gold or colored metals, then there should be no reason as to why you should not buy him men's jewelry made out of these metals. Yellow gold men's bracelets, men's gold necklaces, gold pendants and men's gold rings can be incredibly stunning and eye-catching. Also, gold and other metal alloys come in a variety of colors, from white to black, pink to orange, red to green. Thus, you don't have to go with the conventional yellow or white colored precious metals. Surprise him with a colored gold bracelet or ring!It will definitely be a unique and unforgettable piece.

That would be a matter of personal taste. It depends on what your man's style is, what type of jewelry does he likes and what he would find appropriate. Personally, I think the best metals for men's jewelry are the silvery-white colored ones. You could look for something in silver, titanium, platinum, silver sterling, stainless steel, palladium or white-gold. I feel that these materials are less ostentatious and gaudy. They seem to me to be more elegant and respectable and that yellow tinted metals make a men's jewelry look cheesy and flashy.

I agree, unless your guy likes glamour I suggest you go for silver jewelry. Silver offers a color that is lustrous, but casual. Sterling silver is also still a quality metal used in sophisticated and designer jewelry. If he isn't a big jewelry fan I believe a well designed silver jewelry piece can change his mind.
