I have a 15 year anniversary coming up and I want to get my husband something special. What gift should I get? Is a diamond watch a good idea?

Isn't there a special gemstone or material or something that is supposed to symbolize fifteen years?

For any anniversary, diamond watches with engraved faces are very popular. They can express time - specifically the amount of time yet spent together. Engraving a diamond watch is a lovely idea for a 15th year wedding anniversary.

The traditional stone for the 15th anniversary is a ruby. The ruby is supposed to symbolize happiness and good fortune. You can always get your husband a beautiful ruby ring. There are some quite stunning men's ruby rings on the market these days that are modern and chic.

I'm all for combining the diamond gifts described above for your anniversary. Since a diamond watch is so incredibly symbolic and beautiful, I think this should be the basis of your anniversary gift. A diamond watch embodies the "diamonds are forever" concept, as well as the concept of time that your lives have been and will continue to be entwined and shared. A diamond watch is also probably the piece of diamond jewelry that your husband would be most likely to wear since it is both practical and beautiful. If you engrave a personal message that holds special meaning for the both of you on the diamond watch, that will make the gift even more thoughtful and exquisite. To this lovely diamond gift, I would suggest adding either rubies or crystals as they are both gorgeous stones that stand specifically for your 15th anniversary.

Actually you're spot on with the diamond watch idea. There are two gift lists for anniversaries, the Traditional list (which is over 100 years old) and the Contemporary list. Although the Traditional gift for 15 years is crystal, the Contemporary gift is a watch! Now, a diamond-encrusted watch may be going overboard a little, I'm not sure how much your man wants to glitter. Unless he's a blinged out gangsta, diamond watches for men are kind of sissy. There are lots of high-class and high-quality men's watches out there that don't incorporate diamonds. Men's watches gain value points for the quality their watch mechanisms, as well as for the materials they are made of. If he's like most men, he'd probably prefer a luxury watch like a Bulgari watch, a Chopard watch, an Omega or a Rolex, to a glittery diamond time piece.

15 year anniversaries are 'crystal' anniversaries, i.e. crystal gifts are supposed to be exchanged by the couple. You could get him something with crystal although I think something like a crystal vase would probably not appeal to your man. Instead, go for something modern like a nice diamond encrusted watch or a diamond eternity ring.
