What are diamond ring enhancers? Are they suitable as anniversary gifts?

I want to buy my wife some sort of diamond jewelry for our upcoming anniversary and heard that ring enhancers could be appropriate, but I haven't the slightest clue as to what these rings are, and I would love to get some clarifications on this matter.

To answer the first part of your question, ring enhancers are especially designed rings that complement an existing ring - traditionally a solitaire diamond engagement ring. The ring enhancer is worn on the same finger as the existing diamond ring in such a way that creates a uniform look of a multi stone ring. There are two types of ring enhancers: wrap rings and insert rings. The first is worn individually in such a way that still exposes the existing diamond ring, and the latter is actually designed to slide the existing diamond ring inside of it. Both achieve the same effect of making the previous diamond ring look bigger and more striking by featuring additional diamond stones. Some argue that these rings could actually be beautiful anniversary gifts because they have a symbolic connotation to them. Upgrading your wife's diamond engagement ring is not only a tribute to the happiest day of your life, but also symbolizes the fact that just like her diamond ring, your marriage is only getting better as the years go by…

Personally, I don't think that ring enhancers are an appropriate wedding anniversary gift. Ring enhancers are usually bought by the woman wearing the diamond jewelry herself and only if she feels that this enhancement is necessary. To be honest, I think that buying a ring enhancer as a wedding anniversary gift is not in the slightest bit romantic, and even a bit rude! Worst yet, there's a possibility that your wife could get insulted by this gesture due to strong sentimental ties with her original ring. If your aim is to upgrade your wife's engagement or wedding ring, there are more successful and appropriate ways to do so. If you want to invest in an extra set of diamonds to upgrade your wife's original ring, it's best to set the stones into the actual ring, and not as a separate enhancer ring. However, to do so you must first share your intension with your wife and ask for her opinion for two reasons: one is to actually get the ring so you could take it to the diamond jeweler, and the second is to consult with your wife and see her reaction. If your wife says that she would like to keep her ring as it is and not add anything to it, there are lots of other diamond jewelry you could get her as a wonderful wedding anniversary gift. On the other hand, if your wife thinks it's a good idea and that her ring could do with a diamond upgrade (I have the thought that more women will be inclined to think this way), then I think it's important to include her in this experience. She'll be able to provide her opinions and specify her likes and dislikes in order to make the engagement/wedding ring upgrade as best as possible.
