I'm a student and I love my mom but can't afford a really extravagant present for Mother's Day...what could I get her that would be meaningful and have a lot of sentimental value?

Well, I got my mom a broken-heart necklace. It's silver and in the shape of a heart, but it is split down the middle and has to chains. One side of the heart says "mother" and the other "daughter" and you can decide which one you want to give her. I think it has great sentimental value. I always wear mine next to my hear, and it reminds us both how special we are to each other!

I think buying your mom some beautiful silver earrings in a style you know she'll love is special. My mom and I both collect earrings and it's so nice to put on a pair from the person you're thinking of. I wear the ones she's given me for special luck when I feel like I need it...and I've given her a couple of favorite pairs. Especially if your mom is older but has her own fashion sense, finding a pair of nearly-weightless earrings, maybe made by a local artist or someone you know, can be a really great-and less commercialized-way of telling her you love her!

I think that you should get your mom a charm bracelet...You get her a very simple one, and any time you're feeling particularly loving towards her you can buy another charm to put on it! I think it's a great way to say "I love you" and you can even, if you come on a little money, get really special charms with crystals or gemstones on them... On her birthday you could get her a charm with her birthstone, and it's not too expensive but a really classy thing to get someone. It's especially great if your mom ISN'T that old, because if you are a student I'm assuming your mom isn't really, really old and probably still has some young tastes!

While I think diamond necklaces or pearl earrings are beautiful and always a classic gift, I think something more understated is always best. I personally think a silver or gold locket or pendant that you can put a picture of you and your mom is the best gift ever. Lockets used to be really popular many years ago and kind of faded away from the general population, which is why I think it’s kind of a great gift to give – no one else wears them. It’s kind of a vintage jewelry feel. And today there are still designers who are creating beautiful, modern designs. You can get lockets in gold or silver with unique designs or precious stones like diamonds or even pearls, if you mother really likes those things.
