Is custom made diamond jewelry a good idea for a birthday present?

My wife's birthday is fast approaching and I'm planning on getting her some beautiful pieces of jewelry. How much will it cost to custom make diamond jewelry for her? Is custom jewelry genially more pricy than pre-made jewelry items?

That depends. Who's the present for? Is it a spouse or a loved one? Or is it for a friend? Custom made diamond embedded jewelry can be quite stunning, but it can also be quite costly. If it's for a certain loved one, designing specially made custom diamond jewelry can be quite touching and can show your sweetheart just how much effort and care you took in order to make him\her happy. If the jewelry is for a friend I'm not sure I would personally go so far as to design and custom order jewelry, let alone diamond jewelry (which is by far more expensive). In this case, perhaps you should stick with ready-made jewelry of a plainer kind.

There are different levels of custom-made jewelry that could be chosen from, and I'm not sure which one you're referring to. If you're thinking about custom making your jewelry from scratch, i.e. sending a craftsman your sketches and designs, then I think it's a bit much for a birthday present. Not only is it extremely costly, but it's also very time consuming, as designing your own jewelry from scratch could take months to complete. Your sketches will first have to be reviewed and approved by the manufacturer, then you'll have to negotiate about the materials to be used in your jewelry, and only after all sides came to an agreement, can your jewelry manufacturing process begin, which could take a lot of time (depending on the complexity of the design and size of the jewelry). However, like I said before, there is another option which is to customize your jewelry to a smaller extent. You could choose a readily made piece of jewelry from a jewelry store and ask the jeweler to slightly customize it according to your taste. I think this option will be a bit more suitable if we're talking about a birthday present; both in terms of money and time. There are actually websites online that specialize in custom-making your own piece of jewelry. They usually have several template designs you could choose from, and then you can play around with certain properties of the jewelry to suit your taste. For example, you could choose the material of the setting to be used (gold / white-gold / platinum), the amount of gemstones to incorporate (usually from 1 to 6) and the colors of the gemstones in the jewelry. I think you should definitely check out these websites, because they could offer you exactly what you are looking for in a birthday present: a descent priced piece of jewelry that is fit to your exact specification.
