What kinds of piercing jewelry are there? What should I know?

I'm just wondering about this question. What are some questions I should know the answer to before I think of getting a piercing?

Well, I don't totally understand your question...but I can tell you what I know.
A popular kind of jewelry for piercings is bar jewelry, which means that there is a bar with ball ends (usually. Some ball jewelry is staight, like for cartilage piercings, sometimes, or tongue rings... Some is curved, which means that it is usually what's called a Banana Bar, shaped a little like a banana in curve. Banana Bars are used for Belly Button Rings, and something similar is used for tongue frenulum piercings. These are needed when the middle of the ring has to go in and both ball ends must remain visible. Ring jewelry itself usually denotes that it's in a ring shape, and is usually measured in diameter. Post jewelry (for ears and noses) is another kind of bar jewelry. Some piercing jewelry is measured by gauge, which is the thickness of the post or whatever part of the jewelry enters the skin. The smaller the gauge number the bigger the post is. There are certain regulations around this, but for earring piercings people can often use larger and larger gauges in order to stretch their ear holes. Doing this should be considered seriously, though, because if the person later regrets the stretching of their ear hole they wont be able to go back and fix it without some kind of surgical procedure done in order to close the hole and make it smaller.
