I just recently found out I'm pregnant (and I couldn't be happier about it!!!), but I was wondering if it's safe to leave my belly button ring in throughout the duration of the pregnancy?

I can totally relate to the fact that you want to keep your belly button ring. After all, it's probably been a part of you for a while now, but the truth is that the healthiest choice would be to remove it during the pregnancy. If you keep the belly button ring in place, it's only a matter of time before it gets to be uncomfortable or you develop an infection as a result of your growing belly. You might be able to leave it in up to your 6th month (at the latest), but after that you really must remove it. The bottom line is that this kind of body jewelry could cause complications in your pregnancy so in my opinion, it's just not worth the risk. You have the rest of your life to wear a belly button ring if you want to, but now it's time to put your baby first. That's right, motherhood starts right now!

Why would you want to wear a belly button ring during your pregnancy? It seems a little risky to me. I mean your skin stretches and distends when you're pregnant so either one of two things could happen: the pierced hole may widen and the ring might fall out, or the ring may become uncomfortable, since the whole area is supposed to get really swollen. Regardless, I would suggest you take out the ring, keep it somewhere safe till you have your baby (although the hole may remain wide even after you've delivered, so the ring may not fit into it anymore, anyways).

I would also recommend removing your belly button ring, just to be on the safe side. Worst case scenario, you can have your belly button re-pierced after you give birth. However, if you're really determined to keep your belly button ring in, there are a couple of options that you might want to explore:*
