anyone know if wooden jewelry boxes are really the most popular boxes, like i suspect?

when jewelry boxes are made out of wood, then the top of the box is often designed intricately - and across the world (like in the far east, i.e., india, there are craftsmen who design original designg, or contemporary stuff - they even sometimes paint the boxes with designs from various eras - like prehistory, etc.

if you think about it, wood and mankind go hand in hand. so much in our world that has been used by people evolved from wood. i mean so many thing. as we started creating more and more useful things in our life, we discovered how to produce stuff from other maters. however, in our history, practically everything was created out of wood and that includes jewelry boxes. The reason why is because natural wood is dynamic - it comes in a range of colors - think about it. whether from mahogonay or ebony and you can do so much with it in terms of the way you cut it.

that's a good question. they probably are... i mean, aren't most jewelry boxes made out of wood? i can't imagine wooden jewelry boxes out of something else being more popular than the wooden ones. especially since they seem to be the most sturdy and the most durable. i know that jewelry boxes are sometimes made of other materials as well (such as metal, plastic... etc.) but i have mostly seen wooden jewelry boxes in the various department stores and also at various friends' houses. they usually store their best pieces of jewelry in the old-fashioned standard wooden boxes that we all know of.

i'm not sure. if there are so many different kinds of boxes around... then i don't know why wooden boxes would necessarily be more popular then, say, metal or plastic. i wonder if there are stats on this stuff. i personally don't own any jewelry boxes so i can't say for sure what kind of box i would buy if i did indeed buy one. i do know that my friends who own jewelry boxes don't necessarily own the wooden boxes. i think theirs are made of some kind of copper material. i also have a friend that hangs her jewelry on this kind of wall hanging that has hooks attached to it. i think those are coming back in the jewelry trend.

just to add to the last answer, sometimes craftsmen finish the top of the jewelry box and attach a kind of fine lining in a velvety or silk material - or something that wouldn't damage the box. The way the deatails are done is basically finely and the glue can't be seen or if nails are hammered the crafstmen ensure that they don't damage whatever jewelry they are making. The wooden jewelry box is popular especially in the far east.. like in india.
