My boyfriend gave me a necklace for Christmas. It looks like it's made out of silver but I can't be sure and I don't want the metal to ruin in the shower. How can I find out what my necklace is made out of?
It's a really gorgeous necklace, with a silver cat shaped pendant dangling from it, set with a sapphire as the cat's eye, so I want to know how to properly take care of it.

Anyhow, I wouldn't advise you to shower with the necklace, all metals like dry places, make the extra effort and save yourself future worries.

That's easy enough to do! All you need to do is to go to a local jeweler and have him look at your jewelry. He could easily tell you what materials it was made out of. If you think the necklace is valuable, perhaps you should even have it appraised by the jeweler for insurance purposes.

If your boyfriend doesn't know (obviously this is the first person to ask) then you should ask him where he got it and call the store to find out. The other responders are correct, however. Wearing any precious metal in the shower is probably not the best idea.
