How do I get tarnish smell out of old jewelry?

I inherited some antique and vintage jewelry from a great aunt, including some great silver necklaces and heavy silver cuff bracelets. I don't think she had worn the jewelry in ages, and most of it was pretty tarnished. I cleaned the tarnish off the silver necklaces and bracelets, and they look terrific, but they still have a metallic scent that I just can't get rid of! I'm pregnant so I'm especially sensitive to smells, and when I tried to wear the bracelets the smell made me want to barf! I don't know what to do. I don't want to give up on wearing the gorgeous antique jewelry.

The best method is to cut a piece of aluminium foil and to put it in a bottom of a glass bowl or cup. Afterwards, place the jewel on top of the aluminum foil and pour boiled water in the glass so that it completely covers the jewelry. Add 2-3 spoons of baking soda, let it soak for a bit, and then scrub the piece with a toothbrush. This should remove the tarnish smell out of the jewel for sure.

You could try polishing your jewelry with toothpaste. It works wonders for the smell and brings the shine back to your jewelry. You could also try a type of metal cleaner or simply take your jewelry in for a cleaning at the jewelers.
