I saw that several online dealers sell tanzanite men's rings. I'm confused about whether tanzanite is a metal or a gemstones. What is tanzanite exactly and why is it used for such rings?

Tanzanite is actually a gemstone which is usually found in Eastern Africa. It is a mineral stone, which normally possesses a dark blue-purple color. This gem is rather rare, and usually undergoes a heat treatment which brings out it's beautiful blue color. Why is it popular for men's rings? I guess it because of the tanzanite's dark mysterious color, along with the rather stiff texture of the stone, who knows?!

Tanzanite is a beautiful bluish purplish gemstone, found chiefly around Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. In its natural state, Tanzanite is reddish brown, and it must be heated to 600C in a gemological oven to bring out the stone's violet tones. A variety of the mineral zoisite, tanzanite wasn't discovered until the 1960s, and was first offered for sale at Tiffany's and was a fantastic sensation. Tanzanite jewelry is reasonably priced, about like white diamonds, and tanzanite engagement rings are truly gorgeous. Their dusky blue shade makes them great for men's jewelry too.
