Which gold should I choose for my tanzanite ring?

I want to order a (man's) tanzanite ring. Before I select a design, I want to know my options for the color of gold that would look best as the band for a tanzanite ring?

Personally, I prefer a white gold band with a tanzanite gemstone because it makes the blue of the tanzanite stand out more, resulting in a more sophisticated piece of jewelry. It also depends on what piece of jewelry you're talking about, and how prominent the metal is in the piece. Tanzanite stud earrings, for example, look great with yellow gold because the tanzanite itself is the main material and outshines the gold. A tanzanite engagement ring is more flattering in white gold though, but a tanzanite pendant can probably go in either direction, depending on your skin tone.

Tanzanite is a great gemstone for men's jewelry, especially men's rings. A deep blue to indigo shade, Tanzanite looks fabulous in both yellow and white gold bands. If you want the tanzanite stone to be the focus of the ring, then you better choose a metal which isn't too flashy, thus white gold might be more suitable than yellow gold for a men's tanzanite ring. Your choice of metal should depend on the exact color of the tanzanite gemstone. Look and see how the metal's color contrasts the blue stone. That would help you choose. In addition, you should decide whether you want an 18k gold band, or a 14k, harder, gold. Or opt for another precious metal - platinum also flatters tanzanite perfectly. Another thing to take into consideration is whether you wear any other pieces of jewelry, such as stud earrings or a men's watch on a daily basis, and what precious metal are they fashioned from. It's best to stay consistent. So if you have a gold man's watch and a gold stud earring, go for a gold tanzanite ring as well.
