I have a scratch on my wedding ring band. How can I repair it?

I recently noticed a relatively deep scratch along the perimeter of my white gold wedding band, and I am desperate to know how I can fix this! Does anyone has some good advice? I really want to get the wedding band fixed before my husband notices. Plus our anniversary is coming up this month and I want the wedding band to look absolutely perfect.

I think the way to go is to get divorced. Than you can scrap the ring, marry richer guy and get new and even bigger band!

The best advice I could give you is to take your wedding band to a local jewelry store for buff treatment. Preferably, you should contact the same jewelry store you purchased your wedding bands from (if possible of course), because they would normally provide you with free cleaning services for your ring because you are a former client. Jewelry stores have all the specialized equipment to properly clean and polish your ring, and I am sure they have seen a similar sort of wear and tear over the years. If the scratch is very deep as you mentioned, maybe you could ask the jewelry store about re-plating your wedding ring with a gold coat. This might do the trick and even boost your ring in terms of shine and polish. Either way, I wouldn't recommend trying to do something alone at home because you really don't want to take risk of harming your precious wedding band in any way.

OK, this might sound funny and strange, but I would suggest taking your wedding ring in for your next dental appointment. As a dental student, I can honestly tell you that there are a lot of women out there bringing their jewelry in for a good polish at the dentist as part of their normal visit. Dentist clinics have all the necessary polishing equipment suitable for precious metals because we use this sort of equipment to polish crowns and such. However, you must keep in mind though that this free polishing service could be appropriate only for rings that do not contain studded diamonds or delicate gemstones around the ring's perimeter, because it is only suitable for the actual metal of the ring itself.

If you have a scratch on your wedding band, the best thing to do would be to go to the jeweler and have him buff the scratch out for you. If you ring is of high K gold it will scratch more easily and more often because gold is soft when not mixed with other metals. If your wedding ring is made of gold, you could also purchase a jewelry repair kit and buff and try fixing the gold wedding ring yourself.

White gold can also get scratched quite easily. Still, if the scratches in your white gold jewelry aren't deep you can probably get them buffed out.
