How do you clean Cubic Zirconia and jewelry with Cubic Zirconia?

I have a number of rings and brooches that are set with Cubic Zirconia. I think it's about time I clean them. What's the best way to do that?

When cleaning cubic zirconia jewelry the metal which compromises the piece must also be taken into consideration. Since cubic zirconia are generally considered to be less luxurious than diamonds they are usually set in materials which are relatively inexpensive (materials which include semi-precious and base metals such as silver, copper, low karat gold, stainless steel, etc.), whereas diamonds are commonly mounted onto precious metal settings (including high karat gold, white gold, platinum and palladium). Unsurprisingly, the more expensive precious metals are considerably more durable than semi-precious and base metals. For example, high karat gold may be malleable, however, it will neither rust nor will it tarnish, while s lesser metals such as silver and copper may oxidize and corrode over time. Before you decide on a cleaning regiment for your cubic zirconia jewelry I would recommend that you find out more about the materials which are incorporated in the piece. If, for instance, your jewelry was made with silver sterling, you should avoid soaking your jewelry in warm or tepid water since the humidity will cause the silver to tarnish. Instead, use a dry soft polishing cloth to clean your jewelry, or apply silver polishing products to regain your silver jewelry's original shine. On the other hand, if your cubic zirconia jewelry was made with copper a great way of cleaning the piece is to soak it in tomato sauce. The tomato's acids clean the corrosion off of the metal and give it a clean, sleek look. The best way for you to clean and maintain your cubic zirconia jewelry is by learning how to clean the jewelry's metal in addition to its set gemstones. There are a number of ways you can clean your Cubic Zirconium jewelry. Most of them can be done at home with simply household products, although some choose to buy special solutions and jewelry cleaners. The simplest and easiest way to do a preliminary cleaning is to take a dry soft cloth, cotton, or flannel to your jewelry and wipe gently. It is recommended that you polish by using only back and forth motions rather than circular motions, since circular motions might scratch your stone. So don’t try to wax on or wax off?. The most common and easy way to clean your CZ jewelry is the same way you might clean a piece of real diamond jewelry: prepare a bowl of warm soapy water (use regular dish soap or hand soap. No harsh chemicals). Soak your jewelry for a few minutes. Then take a soft cloth, q-tip, or foamy cosmetic applicator to remove dirt or grime from any small nooks or crevices. You may also choose to seam your cubic zirconium jewelry. Wear gloves or use tongs to hold your jewelry over boiling and steaming water. Then use a soft polishing cloth, cotton, or flannel to polish it dry. You may also consider purchasing an ultrasonic cleaner. A typical ultrasonic jewelry cleaner should cost a few hundred dollars, but can range from $30-$1,500 depending on how serious you are about your cleaning. If you simply don’t have the time, or don’t trust yourself to clean properly, then take your jewelry to your local jeweler. And remember, always take the proper precautions to store your cubic zirconia jewelry properly in a cool dry place in its own container to avoid scratching.
