How do I find the right jeweler for the job of creating a custom engagement ring? I already purchased the loose diamond that I want to have set in the ring, and all that's left is to find the perfect jeweler to make the ring.

Taking on the custom design of your engagement ring can be pretty tough, not only for you, but for the jeweler too. You need to find someone who really knows what they're doing, preferably even someone who specializes in creating custom jewelery. Then there's the issue of price and time consumption, but when you see your perfect engagement ring for the first time, it will all be worth it!
To find the right jeweler for the job, it's a good idea to check out their credentials. Inquire about their experience, view samples of their work, and make sure they are reputable. The professional jewelers that perform customizations are most often online jewelers, as well as designer jewelers and independent jewelers.
For the most part, brand name jewelers execute only the simplest of custom jobs, like engraving, resizing, or substituting the diamond or gemstone on your engagement ring.
Keep in mind that you may want to reconsider having your engagement ring custom designed if time and cost are key issues for you. It will probably take a while until you'll be wearing the custom designed engagement ring on your finger, since the design is often complicated and the jeweler that has taken your custom order, most likely has quite a few other jewelry orders to tend to as well. If you are on a tight schedule, perhaps a custom designed engagement ring is not the best idea in your case. And just as with anything you decide to have custom made, the price of a custom designed engagement ring will be higher than that of your standard engagement ring. So if you find yourself lowering the bar on all the aspects of your engagement ring, like quality, precious metal grade, etc., then you might want to reconsider the customization of your diamond engagement ring.
