I broke up with my ex two months ago, but he's still trying to get back together with me. For my last birthday he gave me a custom designed pendant, engraved with my name and my birth date. Since we're not together anymore I don't want to keep the pendant but he won't take it back. Can I return it to the jewelry store where it was bought from?

Sounds doubtful. Though it is true that most jewelry stores have return policies attached to their items, I do not think that these policies include custom made jewelry. Your pendant was made special for you, and was engraved with your name. The jewelry store would have a problem re-selling such a pendant, therefore, they probably won't let you return your custom made jewelry. If your ex insists you keep the pendant, and wants nothing to do with it, then maybe you should consider selling the custom made jewelry off. If the pendant does not have an appraisal (which estimates its value) attached, then that would be your first order of business. Since you know which jewelry store the pendant was bought from, you could have them tell you the exact value of the pendant, or you could have it appraised by a local jeweler. Once you know what the asking price for you pendant should be, try taking the custom made jewelry to a local pawn shop. Pawn shops are usually willing to buy custom made jewelry, even if the items are engraved. Make sure to let the proprietors know that you are aware of how much your item is worth, so that they won't rip you off and offer you less for your jewelry If you do not like the idea of selling your pendant to a pawn shop, try posting your custom made piece on online auctions (such as eBay for example). You'd be surprised at how easy it is to sell custom made jewelry online, and you could probably get a fair price for the item. If you are unable for some reason to sell the pendant online or at a pawn shop, then perhaps you could have a local jeweler melt the jewelry down and recast it into something you would like, or, if your pendant is made out of a precious metal such as gold, you could trade the melted down metal for cash (there are plenty of websites or jewelry shops which offer 'gold for cash' deals).
