I don't know a thing about jewelry or watches, but my I have to buy a watch for my brother's graduation present and I have no idea what to get! It was my mother's idea to get him a watch, but she works night shifts so she's put me in charge of buying it.

Watch designs are classified into six main categories which include classical watch designs, complex watch designs, sporty watch designs, women's watch designs, men's watch designs and luxury watch designs.
1. Classical watch designs – Classic watches were not designed to be flashy or luxurious, but rather as functional and accurate timepieces. Classical watches are commonly round faced, made with simple metals such as silver or steel, and accompanied by a leather strap. Also, classically designed watches are plain banded (i.e. they are not set with any type of gemstone) as these watches are meant to be inconspicuous and practical. Classic watches can be worn by anyone and on any event or function, but are usually favored for casual, day to day occasions.
2. Complex watch designs – complex watch designs incorporate an intricate mechanical system and interface. These watches include quartz powered watches and computerized watches, which are very durable, multi-functional timepieces. Complex watches can be quite practical, but are not always visually appealing (their interfaces can sometimes be awkward and hard to use).
3. Sporty watch designs – these watch designs include highly durable and practical timepieces, such as the waterproof scuba diving watch and the space travel titanium watch. Sporty watches were built to resist intense temperatures, high humidity and sudden shocks. This particular watch design is called 'sporty' because it can be worn while performing a variety of physical activities and exercises, without being damaged.
4. Women's watch designs - women's watches come in a multitude of shapes, sizes, colors and designs. With women's watches, the emphasis is on visual appearance rather than functionality. Therefore, women's watches are often times elegant and intricately designed, but these watches may not have the best internal mechanisms.
5. Men's watch designs – men's watch designs are often times plainer than women's designs. Men's watches are usually made with heavy looking metals such as gold, titanium and platinum and are commonly plain banded or set with a small amount of diamonds. Also, men's watches have more complex mechanisms, which ensure the longevity of the timepiece.
6. Luxury watch designs – luxury watches are often worn as expensive wardrobe adornments or as status symbols, meant to denote a person's wealth and achievements. As such, luxury watch designs are usually intricate and complex, and incorporate lavish metals and precious gemstones. These high-end pieces are a favorite amongst celebrities and wealthy socialites, and are often worn on dressy occasions such as red carpet events and charity balls.
