I really love designer everything...but my friend is a big snob and she says that If the jewelry isn't from a name-brand it isn't considered designer. Is she right?

I think that's kind of mean...I buy a lot of jewelry from little designers on the street where I live in Montreal, and this friend of mine basically said that they aren't big names, so their jewelry isn't really designer jewelry.

Well, I think you are both kind of right. I mean, on the one hand it seems obvious to me that if you say that something is designer...and you bought it from a little designer and she only made a couple of those things and you are one of the lucky people that got one...then you are definitely wearing designer jewelry. But I think probably what your friend means is that it's not "designer"...meaning that she is specifically talking about name-brand stuff. You should feel cool, anyway, because "designer" stuff is manufactured at large a lot more than a small designer's stuff is, and that's why when you wear dolce-and-gabana or tommy hilfiger or whatever people will notice that you are wearing it and will know the name of the things you are wearing...but that doesn't mean that the cool avant-garde stuff you buy isn't designer. I think you should explain to her that she is talking about name branding, and you are just talking about creative clothes and things that no one else has. Things that were designed by really cool little designers in great shops in the city where you live! What's cooler than that, anyway! Nothing!!!! :)

I think she's absolutely wrong. I mean...All it means to say that the jewelry is designer is that it was made by a designer, and not by some chain store where everything is just manufactured at large. SO if you buy jewelry that's pretty much one-of-a-kind from little local jewelry shops or small-scale designers, then to me it is definitely designer. I buy all my clothes from little designers, and it's so special because no one else has any of the same stuff that I have, and I always feel really special and cool when I go to work or go out with friends! :)
