I was asking around about eco-friendly jewelry and a girlfriend of mine told me that she saw a grass ring! I mean, a metal band with a patch of real grass as the center piece. Does this ring really exist? Details anyone?

There IS a ring out there by a pretty out-there designer that has real grass as the centerpiece of the ring. The ring is called "The Growing Ring". It costs about $230 and it was designed by Haffsteinn Juliusson. The base of the ring is made of beautiful molded silver with a contemporary geometric setting (you can choose either square or round). But, while you might expect the setting to hold a gemstone or showcase diamonds or pearls, this ring's setting act as a small flower-pot of sorts. It contains some earth and bright green mossy grass growing from it. Because it actually contains a living organism, the ring does need to be watered, nurtured and worn in the sun. You can find it online at a number of designer/alternative jewelry sites and also on anumber of sites that have a melange of cool products. Just google "The growing ring". If you are into eco-friendly jewelry, or organic jewelry, this is one of the coolest pieces I've seen in a while!!!!
