My boyfriend bought me a really pretty necklace. He said it is a Herkimer Diamonds and of course I thanked him for it and I love it, but it really doesn't look like a diamond. Maybe it's a special kind of diamond? What should a Herkimer Diamond look like?

Your boyfriend got you a beautiful gem but it isn't a diamond. It's actually a crystal. It is called a Herkimer Diamonds or a Rock Crystal. It's actually said to help the body heal and to remove aches and pains. And American Indians used to use Herkimer Diamonds, that is these Rock Crystals, in their rituals, and these gems were said to help bring rain. So don't be dissapointed. It may not be a diamond but it's a beautiful piece of jewelry.

Ha ha! He thought it was a diamond? That's so cute. Nah, it's a clear crystal. But it's a great crystal. And it's a traditional fifteenth wedding anniversary present, too. My dad bought a Rock crystal pair of earrings for my mom a few months back, that's how I know this. It's quite beautiful actually. Maybe if you and your boyfriend get married and stay together for fifteen years you can buy something for him made out of Rock crystal! It IS a pretty gem, but it's definitely not a diamond, ha ha!
