What supernatural powers is amethyst said to have?

My boyfriend game me a beautiful amethyst pendant for my birthday which used to belong to his great grandmother! I know different crystals are said to possess different supernatural powers and I'm interested to know what kinds of strengths my particular crystal gemstone is said to posses?

I love purple crystals. I can just imagine the pendant you got, I'm sure it's absolutely stunning. I read once that Leonardo Da Vinci wrote about Amethyst saying it makes your brain work quicker and gets rid of evil thoughts!

In Greek mythology, a young girl named Amethystos refused Dionysus's (God of wine) affection. That's why this stone is considered to protect whomever wears it against drunkenness. It's also said to bring peace and tranquility to whomever wears it, and even success in business.

Amethyst is one of my favorite crystals. Your pendant must be beautiful. I always love jewelry that's been passed down from previous generations. I feel like I'm wearing a part of a personal history. That's really a beautiful gift your boyfriend gave you. Amethyst is thought to have various strengths. It is said to bring luck, constancy, protect against magic, home-sickness and drunkenness. The meaning of the word in Greek is actually "not drunk".
