What is the history of the citrine crystal?

My mom found an old necklace that used to belong to my grandmother. We've identified it as citrine, but neither of us know much about this gemstone, except for the fact that it's pretty. What is the history of this crystal?

It was used in Ancient Rome as jewelery and back then it was extremely rare. It's popularity peaked again in the nineteenth century, and then between World War I and World War II, in the Art Deco era, it was included in ravishing elaborate paces custom made for movie stars like Greta Garbo and others. Today the stone is no longer so rare, however, after a few decades when it was not taken seriously, it is once again considered a trendy beautiful gemstone to own.

Citrine has been around in Greece since Hellenistic times, that is 4th century bc, and it was used in Ancient Rome for cabochon and intaglio purposes. In the bible the tribe of Naphtali is associated with citrine, and in the 19th century it was widely used in jewelery.
