Where to look for dog jewelry?

I don't remember ever seeing jewelry in my local pet store and I don't believe there's a Golden Retriever department in Tiffany's as well. Where do people find pet jewelry and how do the select a jewelry for their pet. I'm beginning to show interest in such jewelry but I want to be sure I know enough about and have some tips for finding such items. What do I need to know before I go deep and buy my dog a new accessory?

Most dog owners who spoil their dogs with jewelry see it as another way to take care of the dog and provide it a high living standard. Surely, when it comes to rare expensive breeds it only makes sense to add some accessories (a person doesn't normally buy a $5000 dog if he or she doesn't care much about the dog's appearance), but you could also give a mixed breed simple dog a stylish look if you wish.

Bracelets, necklaces, pendants and charms can all serve as dog jewelry, with an extra adaptation from human to dog jewelry. You can find dog jewelry made out of plastic and cheap metals or look for something made out of silver, white or yellow gold, which wouldn't seem poor even if it is worn by a Hollywood actress. But why stop there? You can look around and find pet jewelry designers which could assist you in selecting dog earrings, lockets, finger rings and many more. Perhaps Tiffany & Co. doesn't have a pet department but you would be surprised to find out that quite a few specialty jewelers' stores produce pet jewelry in addition to serving humans.

You might also find jewelry for your dog in department stores, auction houses and big pet stores. You can look on the web and find stores that suit your needs.

From my experience I have learned that some dogs really enjoy wearing jewelry, and giving them such items could indeed lift up their mood, but with some dogs these accessories will be treated as a burden and the dog could try hard to take it off. There's nothing more frustrating in buying your dog a $1000 necklace and then find it broken in the back yard. I know it sounds funny, but I recommend bringing your dog to the store with you, putting the jewelry on it before you decide to make a purchase and try to understand it general attitude towards dog jewelry. Who knows, maybe it would suffer when wearing a chain but enjoy a smaller pendant... It's better to try before you make a big step forward. Sometimes buying jewelry that suits your dog can be even more difficult than buying a ring that fits a woman's taste, don't disregard this issue!

We love our dogs like children! I dreamed one night of a red and silver necklace for my dog KD. She is black and the red just danced against her coat. Since I handcraft jewelry for "regular" people, when I awoke I created a beautiful little necklace for her, just like in the dream ... and she loves it! She wants to wear it all the time! She gets so much attention now! Since then I have created jewelry for other pets too based on materials requested by their owners. Good luck in your search ... if I can help let me know thru my online presence at creativegypsy.etsy.com
