I'm not sure what is the source of a diamond cocktail. I read somewhere that it was first served by the Antwerp diamond company Diamond House but I don't know whether this is true.

A glass of Diamond Cocktail is basically champagne with one or a few small diamonds inside. You don't put the diamonds in your mouth obviously, just enjoy their presence. In most cases Cubic Zirconia is used for the Diamond Cocktail, not a natural valuable stone, but in some cases, where bars are fancy and clients are rich (and have too much money to spend, if you ask me), real diamond are used. Such a glass is usually drunk with a straw or with some caution, not to swallow the diamond...

Diamond cocktails are sometimes served in exclusive dinner parties or banquets. Guests that are jewelers or diamond fans can enjoy it, but also others who like the 'rich and famous' lifestyle. I read that in such parties the host can serve glasses of diamond cocktail to guests, while informing them (either by saying, or by an amusing card that is attached to each glass) that their drink contains a precious diamond. Or does it? In some cases some of the guests receive real diamonds in their cocktails while some have cubic zirconia. An amusing task for them could be to distinguish whether their diamond is real or synthetic. Secret signs on the card attached to the glass can enable the host to know in which glass the real diamonds are located.
