My girlfriend got me a diamond watch for my birthday and I think it looks totally pansy but she says its hot hip hop fashion. Is she right?

You're girlfriend has got a point. Rap stars are all about flashing the bling so they often lay it on pretty thick with diamond watches, as well as diamond necklaces, diamond rings, diamond bracelets, gold and diamond grills. There's no such thing as too much diamond jewelry on the rap scene. There are plenty of rap videos to attest to the fact that diamond watches are really big in rap. The more diamond jewelry the better. A prime example is the Bling Bling video by Cash Money Millionaires where the rappers drive expensive vehicles, blind everyone in sight with their diamond watches and basically flash cash in any way possible. As for jewelry design, there's no such thing as too much when it comes to diamond jewelry on the rap scene. They lay it on real thick. As you may have guessed from the title and the description of the video, the song is about living a life of luxury. It's not clear whether the diamond watches and jewelry featured in the music video are actually owned by the rappers or not, but it doesn't really matter all that much. Whether they own the diamond jewelry or not, they're wearing it and flaunting it and the audience continues to associate rappers with living large and not apologizing for it. Words like ice, Rolex, rings, grills, earrings, and diamonds are peppered all over the song. Let's just say that wherever there's a rap video on screen, diamond watches and diamond jewelry are not far behind – they're sure to show up at some point real soon. Rap music videos are just the perfect place to parade the type of ostentatious jewelry that only rappers would be bold enough to wear.
