Instead of compromising on nice diamond jewelry pieces that I (or my husband can afford), which I end up wearing not very often, I would prefer to wear a dazzling diamond pieces for the 2-3 big events I attend each year. Is there a possibility for a woman without too much cash to spend to rent jewelry and to become a princess (or a pop star) once in a while? Is it something that other women do as well? Where, in fact, can I rent sparkling jewelry and how much does it normally cost?

Sure you can, and there's not shame in it! Many women nowadays learn to appreciate the rented jewelry. As you said, this could assist one in making an eye catching appearance in any important or festive event. Women often have to compromise on wearing cheap jewelry and why should we? Celebrities aren't a shame to borrow impressive jewelry products (though jewelry designer enjoy the publicity of exclusively designing an item for such famous people), so you clearly have no reason to be, neither. Normal people don't go on to the Oscars or to beauty contests but even we have our "red carpet" events, that is to say, special occasions in which we would really want to make a great impression and appear attractive. Renting diamond jewelry could enable us to become the focus of everyone's attention for a couple of hours.
Drop diamond earrings, a white gold 5 carat diamond ring or perhaps a channel set diamond bracelet - You can wear all of them by no time, without losing several months' salary in an instant. This renting trend is currently 'in' partly due to the global recession and the fact that so many of us can't afford buying new expensive jewelry, but I believe (and hope) that it is here to stay, since even when the economy is doing great some diamond jewelry products remain beyond our financial reach.
There are numerous jewelry stores which give us the opportunity to rent diamond jewelry, including brick & mortar and online dealers. I've heard about Adorn (adornbrides.com), which allows customers to browse through its products online and order a product which will be shipped directly to their home.
I think we are coming to an age in which we don't want to settle on things we don't really need an prefer to possess items we truly adore. This is especially true in the case of diamond jewelry, since jewelry isn't really a necessity rather something that is suppose to make up look beautiful. Why settle for something that is only so and so? Some of us have our 1-2 special jewelry pieces which we wear daily, in this case renting is not an option. But when we attend a big important dinner, attend our nephew's wedding or simply celebrate an important birthday wearing jewelry which is both fancy and stylish is almost a necessity.
