I've heard that there's a new company called Alkemie which makes jewelry from recycled metals...who are they and how did they get this interesting idea?!

Well, Alkemie's name refers to the transformation of something common into something precious. The designers are a husband and wife team who have very strong feelings regarding sustainability and providing eco-friendly jewelry to their customers. They are both veterans of the gemstone and fine metal industries, and after years of finding fault with their negative environmental impacts, they chose not to involve themselves any longer. They have created a method of designing and creating jewelry which allows them to merge art and creativity with their care for the environment, creating their own line of sustainable jewelry.

I don't really have anything against normal jewelry, but my boyfriend is really into finding ways to support eco-friendly pracitices, and when he surprised me with a dragonfly necklace from Alkemie last week I was totally excited! Not only is the design completely gorgeous and original, it was also nice to know that when I wear the necklace I'm supporting the creation of sustainable jewelry! It makes me feel good about myself, and plus, it's cute!
