I have pretty hip style and am really into the Green movement. I'm wondering what unconventional materials are most popular among high-end designers of sustainable jewelry?

I'm so glad someone asked this question! My favorite designer label for earrings and necklaces is PopDaisy, whose designer makes all of her jewelry from soft aluminum soda cans. You wouldn't believe it, but they are so gorgeous, and no one would ever know that you're wearing a coca-cola bottle around your neck. Seriously!

The blog Ecoble featured an article a while ago which was all about the top-ten recycled jewelry designs. I remember that it featured earrings made out of x-rays, necklaces made out of re-worked bike tires and china dishes, rings made out of the inside of vintage watch mechanisms, and bracelets made out of newspaper comic strips. I know those materials sound like only a freak would wear them, but I swear that none of the jewelry even remotely resembled the origin of it's materials (except maybe the x-ray earrings, which were just cool). I think if you have a cool, casual sense of fashion and are into sustainable jewelry you wont have trouble finding interesting pieces to wear!
