I really love diamonds, but I'm into environmental activism. Is there a way I can satisfy both my desires??

I really want a diamond ring, and I have the money to buy one, but I want it to be eco-friendly?!?! Is it impossible?

Another way to go is buy a synthetic diamond. They manufacture synthetic diamonds which are very real diamonds indeed, don't confuse them with fake diamonds. The difference between natural and synthetic diamonds is that synthetic ones are manufactured in laboratories by engineers, and not mined form the ground. Their properties, however are not inferior to those of natural diamonds and are sometimes even superior to them. They come in various colors, including fancy yellow and even blue. This way you can get a quality diamond without having to worry about the social implications of labor in the mines or any environmental or ecological considerations.

Well, I have an interesting idea that I think you could totally do. What if you bought a diamond ring (or even a diamond in some other setting) that is vintage...something old enough that the diamond isn't really a support of current diamond mining. You could design a setting for it that could be made out of recycled precious metal, gold or silver, and it might be more time-consuming to figure out, and maybe somewhat pricier than buying an already-made ring, but then anyone who talked to you about that ring would know the length you went to satisfy your desire for eco-friendly jewelry, and you would be supporting the sustainable jewelry industries in whatever country you live!

There are companies that sell diamonds that are conflict-free and mined in areas where strict care is placed on not harming the environment. If you search online you can find places to buy rings with these kinds of diamonds, or even diamonds that are created in labs (still very beautiful) without the mining-related environmental issues. Usually these companies also offer ring and other jewelry settings that use reclaimed/recycled metal or some other metal or beautiful material that helps keep our planet green and healthy. I don't think you necessarily have to give up your love of diamonds in order to satisfy your need to keep our world beautiful, you just have to search a little harder and do your research so that you can be happy with your decision and know that you are doing what it takes to make things better. Then you will be doing a really good thing by supporting the effort of jewelry companies which strive to make their production environmentally sustainable. It's even better than abstaining from diamond/jewelry purchases altogether, because then you are telling the industry that there are people out there who are willing to choose them over everyone else because of their environmental policies. It's a good thing to do!!!!
