Is eco-friendly jewelry only for hippies?

I see all of these sites advertising eco-friendly jewelry, but most of it isn't my style. It's all cloth and seeds, and other hippies stuff. Is this the only kind of jewelry that is good for the environment? Isn't there anything else?

No, eco-friendly jewelry isn't only for hippies. There is plenty of fine eco-friendly jewelry of all styles available to the public. In fact, with the eco-friendly agenda now being so chic amongst celebrities and other stars, there is a high number of fine-jewelry retailers who sell diamond, gold, silver, gemstone and platinum jewelry that is made from materials which have been mined and traded in the most environmentally safe and sustainable ways possible. Companies like Brilliant Earth, a canadian Fair Trade Diamond jewelry company, offers very high quality products that are made specifically conflict-free, and eco-friendly gold or platinum. Green Jewelry is another company, based in NY, that has eco-friendly jewelry. In fact, much of the metal that they use is recycled. So please don't feel like the only way to be stylish and chic is to buy jewelry that is harmful to the environment. There are plenty of options out there for fine jewelry that is also good for the environment!

Absolutely not. Eco-friendly jewelry is for anybody who cares about the environment. In addition, even though eco-friendly literally means that the jewelry was manufactured in a process that took ecological considerations into account, eco-friendly jewelry is also often associated with socially aware processes, i.e. jewelry that was made out of materials (metals and gemstones) that have been mined while complying with the proper labor laws, as there have been a lot of illegal exploitation of workers in gold and diamond mines in the past century. So really, eco-friendly jewelry is for anybody who cares about social and ecological issues.Since this has become a very trendy topic in recent years, a lot of haute-contour companies have incorporated environmentally friendly jewelry into their very trendy designs, and so have smaller companies and less famous designers. It is really the voguish way to go now, no longer only associated with tree-hugger flower children.
