What makes bamboo jewelry eco-friendly?

I keep seeing eco-friendly jewelry sites promoting their new bamboo. Why is bamboo jewelry better for the environment than, say, hem jewelry or other wooden or jewelry?

The idea behind bamboo jewelry is that bamboo grows and spreads quickly and naturally. This means that barely any resources at all have to go into farming bamboo for jewelry. It is a sustainable material. Bamboo grows and spreads so fast that it can produce about 20 times more raw material than most other trees on the same are of square footage. There are also about 1,000 different varieties of bamboo that grow all over the world which means that almost anyone can grow bamboo in a safe, sustainable, productive way, no matter where they live. Not only is it sustainable, but bamboo groves also release 35% more oxygen into the atmosphere than nearly every other plant of the same size. Also, bamboo matures (can be moved and replanted) within 7 years as opposed to 30-50 years for a typical tree. This helps prevent erosion and improve soil conditions. Overall, Bamboo is a wonderful material for jewelry also because it is sturdy, durable and very beautiful. It gives the wearer a natural look that compliments a bohemian chic style.

There is a bit of controversy regarding the ecological and environmental benefits of bamboo for two reasons, one of which is not related to bamboo and jewelry at all. Recently, clothing and fabric companies have been making cloth out of bamboo and lots of people are claiming that this manufacturing process might not be as environmentally friendly as it should be. Some claim that processing the bamboo and converting it into cloth requires so much energy and so many chemicals that it can no longer be considered environmentally friendly. Another reason that some are hesitant to label bamboo as an all-around eco-friendly material is that some strains of the plant grow so fast that they become invasive and are considered weeds. These invasive strains, when left unattended, can invade the habitat of other local plants, killing them off and potentially harming animals and insects that depend on these plants for food.
