What is the most fashionable length for a necklace these days?

Necklaces come in so many different styles and lengths, I never know which ones to choose! I'm well aware that I'm no fashionista so I'd appreciate any tips I can get on necklace lengths from those who are more knowledgeable in jewelry fashion.

Your question is really pretty vague. You didn't mention which kind of necklaces you're referring to (diamond necklaces, pearl necklaces, bead necklaces, gemstone necklaces, etc.) so I'll try to answer the question the best I can. Basically, the most fashionable length for a necklace these days is the length that looks best on you! It all depends on your build. If you're rather small then the longer the necklace the better because it will help elongate your body, but if you're really tall then short necklaces are a better fit. Thankfully, nowadays there are adjustable necklaces which can help vary the length in accordance with your outfit or your mood. Corded necklaces can be adjusted via knots in the cord. Necklaces made of precious metals like gold and silver often have links that enable you to adjust the length depending on the link you choose to place your clasp in (by the way, adjustable necklaces also make great gifts since the gift getter gets to choose which length looks best on her). Most often the length of a necklace is somewhere between sixteen and twenty inches, so it will fit in the area between the base of the neck and the collarbone. If you want to find just the right length for a specific necklace, you can always use a tape measure for your neck. It's always a good idea to wear jewelry that is appropriate for the time of day and the outfit in general. For instance, if you're wearing something formal you might want to consider a short necklace, like a choker to show off your collarbone. However, if you're wearing a turtleneck knit to the office, then a long necklace (perhaps twenty-four to thirty inches) would look better. Bead necklaces always look great when they're long, especially on shorter ladies. For pearl strands, the classic length is between the collarbone and the neckline, but long knotted pearl necklaces look really chic if you're going for a more casual look. And just in case you were wondering about necklace lengths for men, the classic length for men's chains is around eighteen to twenty inches so that it sits right in the collarbone area (and that's the only thing they have to know about necklace length! Their lives are so much easier...).
