Another precaution you should take to protect your jewelry from jewelry theft is to photograph or videotape your valuable pieces of jewelry. You can use any camera to do this, just make sure that you keep the files of the photos, the video tape or DVD in a safe place, preferably in a safe deposit box. That way you'll be able to access them easily if you ever need to show them to the police or the insurance company due to jewelry theft. The best way to go about this would probably be to very slowly tour your home with a video camera. Make sure you get every piece of expensive jewelry and all your valuable possessions caught on tape. Be sure to make a copy of the video so that you can keep one at home and one in your safe. This will certainly come in handy if you are a victim of jewelry theft or if all your valuables are wiped out in a fire. It's true that we're in an age where the power of the mind and positive thinking are very fashionable, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't take precautions and try to keep our jewelry and valuables safe. This is not negative thinking, it's being smart! Make a new video each year, just to be sure that it's up to date and all your valuables are protected. Believe me, this is not a waste of time. Look at it as another form of insurance.

Upon their investigations of jewelry theft cases, police found that many of the businesses that deal with scrap gold are melting the gold they purchase after only twenty-four hours, instead of holding it for thirty days prior to melting it down. Of course, police are doing their best to monitor such businesses and make sure that they wait the appropriate period of time before melting down their precious metals.
To keep your jewelry safe from jewelry theft, there are a few things you can do:
