What services does the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) provide besides the common thorough diamond grading report?

I imagine the GIA as a great big building with lots of people in cubicles with coke bottle glasses examining miniature diamonds and writing up diamond reports all day long. This sounds so dull... Does the GIA offer other services besides writing up diamond reports?

Along with the GIA Diamond Grading Report the GIA provides a Diamond Dossier Report, which is cheaper than the diamond grading report and includes less parameters of examination. Diamonds in the size range of 0.15-1.99 carats can undergo the Diamond Dossier examination. The GIA also offers a special grading report for colored diamonds (which is called The GIA Colored Diamond Grading Report), based on a an examination of a diamond's color degree (for fancy colored diamonds, not light yellow Z color graded diamonds). Additional services, as identifying a gem material, laser inscription, verification of a GIA report (often requested by diamond consumers who don't trust the authenticity of a GIA report, which they received from a diamond vendor) and gemstone grading updates are also offered.

A diamond owner can also check the GIA database to see the original grading report of a gemstone, in case he has the certificate ID number.
