I heard from some girlfriends that there's a trend in kids' watches that have tracking devices inside them. That way you can arm your kids with a tracking device without them having to wear some god-awful mechanism. If this exists, where can I get one?

Is society really so far gone that we need to track our kids like criminals?! What ever happened to trust? I think these watches are taking security way too far. Of course parents want to know their children are safe, but there are other ways of doing so. Small children shouldn't have so many places to go where their parents are unaware of their whereabouts that these watches would be necessary. Most kids go to school, followed by an afterschool program, hobby, or a friend's house. They are always in the care of teachers or fellow parents and if you don't trust these people to be around your children, then the boundaries set on num8 watches aren't going to help you.

It's hard to believe how far technology has gone, but the answer is yes. The UK based company, Lok8u has developed children's watches with a GPS feature that helps parents keep track of their kids. This new and innovative watch is called the num8. The GPS concealed inside the watch enables parents to know where their children are at all times, and with three meter accuracy at that. The num8 watches provide more than just the GPS feature. Parents receive an email and a text message when the watch is removed from the child's wrist. They can also set a limited area for their children and when they are outside of this area the parents are informed as well. Num8 watches also have batteries that last for up to a hundred hours so kids can spend a few nights away from home without having to recharge the batteries on their watches. The watch is considered pretty expensive since it's not a onetime price. The watch itself costs a bit over $200 and then there's an additional monthly fee for the tracking service. As you can imagine, these watches are stirring up quite a bit of controversy.

Yes, as mentioned above, there are watches that can track kids down. I think it can be a real safety benefit for parents to be assured that they can always know where their kids are. Kids have a tendency to run off and so to avoid feelings of concern, I think these watches will be a real treat for parents.

I think the invention of num8 watches is absolutely brilliant! As a single working mom with two jobs and three kids, I'm not always able to be as on top of things as I'd like to be. I appreciate any help I can get and I think these watches would really help take a load off my mind. Between my hectic schedule and trying to balance three kids, num8 watches seem like a real godsend to me. The world just isn't as safe as I'd like it to be, so to all those skeptics out there criticizing num8 watches I say – better safe than sorry.
