I'm clueless when it comes to engagement rings. How can I succeed in buying an engagement ring that suits my girlfriend's taste without asking her?

I considered asking her closest girlfriends about her taste in jewelry, but they're kind of a squawking flock of hens and they'd probably invite themselves along to the jewelry store. I'd rather not commit myself to any shopping sprees with the ladies.

Your safest bet would be to propose to your girlfriend without an engagement ring and then have her pick out her own ring. I know that some women prefer choosing their own engagement rings since they have very particular taste, and do not want to be saddled with an engagement ring that isn't to their specific liking. If you dislike the idea of having your future fiancé pick out her own engagement ring, then taking a close friend or a relative ring shopping with you is a good option. A loved one, who knows your girl intimately, will be better equipped to pick out an engagement ring that she will love. Before picking out your girlfriend's engagement ring, I would highly recommend you educate yourself on the various aspects of shopping for an engagement ring. Browse online websites with information regarding precious gemstones and their attributes, different styled engagement bands and settings, ring prices, engagement band trends, etc. If you are still confused as to which engagement ring you should get, I personally think your safest bet would be to buy your girlfriend a white gold or platinum band, which is simply designed and mounted with a solitaire diamond of good quality (a diamond which is colored I and up, with a clarity rate of no lower than SI, a diamond with a good cut and a carat weight somewhere in the range of 0.25-1 carats), which is embedded into a prong setting.

By considering your girlfriend's unique taste and lifestyle you can arrive at the right choice for her engagement ring. Observe the jewelry that she wears, if most of the jewels are white or silver, consider buying her a white gold diamond engagement ring. If, however, the majority her jewelry is yellow gold, you should probably buy her a yellow gold engagement ring. In addition, you can ask for the advice of her mother or best friend, maybe she has already mentioned her favorite ring style or ring setting to them.
