Can I get my girlfriend a blue diamond engagement ring? How much do blue diamonds cost anyway?

I know it's not traditional to get a colored diamond on an engagement ring, but my fiancee really loves blue and I think she'd jump at the chance to have a blue diamond ring on her finger. I was thinking of a light sky blue diamond that would go fantastically with her light complexion and her blue eyes.

It is so nice to see that romance is alive and well.

Dear friend, your fiancee deserves blue diamond and with little effort on your part she will have it.

Blue diamonds are very rare and expensive but can be found for reasonable price on World's

You certainly can! Blue diamond jewelry is extremely chic and a blue diamond engagement ring would show your fiancee that you put a little extra thought into getting her something especially to suit her tastes. Pure unenhanced blue diamonds, however, are nearly the most expensive gems on the diamond market, second in their rarity only to red diamonds. So unless you're willing to dish out tens of thousands of dollars, you'll have to choose from a selection of irradiated blue diamonds, which are totally real diamonds whose color is enhanced through heat treatments. Treated diamonds sell for a lower price than untreated diamonds, and the per carat price for irradiated blue diamonds is about $1500. Blue diamonds look best set in white gold.
Another option is to go for "bluff" colored diamonds, which are certified natural and un-enhanced diamonds, but they have a grayish or brownish cast so their appearance is a bit less radiant. A grey-blue diamond at 1/4 carat costs about $8000.

Personally, I would not recommend proposing to your girlfriend with a blue diamond engagement ring, because I really don't think a blue diamond is appropriate for an engagement ring. I mean, when people think about engagement rings, they usually think of a ring which features a colorless diamond as opposed to a colorful one. It is just much more traditional to propose with a colorless diamond engagement ring. Most people won't even realize that a blue diamond ring is actually an engagement ring unless you tell them otherwise. Other than that, I hope you realize that investing in a blue diamond is much more expensive than a colorless one. Naturally occurring blue diamonds could reach preposterous prices, but even the "more affordable" line of rings could be quite off limits. The cheapest genuine blue diamond ring I could find online was a round cut 0.28 carat VS1 clarity diamond worth $837 US dollars, but it was really hideous (not a ring your girlfriend will say "yes" to in a heartbeat). The better quality diamonds which are far more fitting as an engagement ring are around $7500 US dollars. I really don't know what your budget it, but most people will find this way out of their range. For this price, it is better to simply invest in a colorless diamond which will not only be cheaper in terms of price, but in my opinion more suitable for the engagement ring purpose. Even though a lot of people wish to express personal individuality when it comes to precious jewelry, with traditional matters such as weddings and engagements, it is best to stick to the basic rules and buy something classy and timeless in design. If you would still like to get your girlfriend a blue diamond, I advise to keep this special gift for a later date - maybe for an upcoming special birthday or prehaps an anniversary present.

If a vivid blue natural diamond is in your price range – you won't find these at a regular jewelry store. Vivid blue diamonds are shown by appointment only, and for 1/4 carat expect to pay $60,000 to $80,000 per carat; a 1/2 carat diamond costs $120,000-$150,000 per carat.
