I thought of proposing by baking my girlfriend a cupcake with the ring inside, so that she'd find it after she takes a bite. Whaddaya think?

I want to come up with a really unique idea for proposing to my girlfriend because she's a super creative type and I think she would appreciate it. In my opinion, the tradition of proposing with a diamond engagement ring is kind of generic, so i want to make the whole proposal ceremony a little more unusual.

I think that this is a dangerous idea. I don't know if you've been on youtube recently, but there was a good week or so when the most popular video was of a woman whose diamond engagement ring was hidden in her frosty, and she swallowed it without even noticing. It can also be quite dangerous. She might choke. If she's into cakes or cupcakes, I'd recommend hanging the ring from a candle on the cupcake, or placing it in the frosting decoration- but I wouldn't suggest hiding it in the batter.

I understand your need to be creative and all, but it's probably the dumbest idea I've ever heard of, and not even in the slightest romantic! There are so many things that could go wrong, starting with you baking a cupcake – do you even know how to bake? Because I sure as hell don’t and I wouldn't want anyone to be my guinea pig on my first baking experiment… Also, why give her a diamond ring covered in cupcake dough when you can give her a sparkling and shimmering diamond ring instead? I'm the more traditional sort of guy, and would probably go down on one knee when the time comes, and believe me I think it'll be much more exciting for her to receive her diamond engagement ring that way!

No! Don't you watch any movies? She always ends up swallowing the diamond engagement ring then has to get her stomach pumped. Not fun. Diamonds are the hardest substance in the world and they'd be sure to break her teeth too. What are you trying to do to the poor girl? Plus, even if she doesn't swallow it, the diamond ring would be all covered in frosting and spittle and that doesn't sound romantic in the least. If you're into the cupcake idea, why don't you serve the platter of cupcakes with the diamond engagement ring sitting alone in a cupcake paper. I think that would be a sweet way of being proposed to, avoids getting the diamond ring all sticky, and shows how much you care because you baked her cupcakes.

Placing engagement rings in baked goods can be quite risky. If you really want to use a cupcake, then perhaps you should consider playing it safe and placing the diamond engagement ring on top of the cupcake, like a cherry. If I were you, I'd scratch the whole cupcake-engagement ring idea. Here's an idea for you: hide the diamond engagement ring in a fortune cookie. Your girlfriend will break the cookie open before she takes a bite, and will never be in danger of swallowing the ring whole.

Ha! Did you see that episode of Desperate Housewives when Edie's digging through her dessert because she thinks there's an engagement ring inside? Totally not sexy....
