Just curious, what are the wackiest wedding proposal ideas you have ever heard?

Don't worry - I'm not trying to get ideas for how to propose to my girlfriend. I'm writing a comic screenplay and there's a proposal scene in it, where the guy presents the girl with a diamond engagement ring, and I wanted it to be totally over the top.

I once heard of guy who wrote an advertisement slide and asked the movie theater people to show it as a preview before the movie. When his girlfriend watched the slide and realized what it was, she must have been so surprised, because it's not something you could expect! Complete with getting down on one knee to pop the question, this could actually be a romantic (yet wacky) proposal!

The wackiest wedding proposal idea I ever heard of belongs to my best friend and he begged me to help him pull it off, which I certainly agreed to do! My friend just happens to be an amateur pilot, and his plan was to take his girlfriend for a casual spin up above, while pointing out to a huge sign that spelled the question "Will You Marry Me?". That's where I came in; I was the poor sucker who actually had to hand-paint the sign with HUGE letters. Fortunately, I had my amazing girlfriend by my side to help me (she added that extra girly touch of a heart under the question mark) and it took us about 4 hours to complete the sign and give my friend the OK to start! We waited next to the enormous sign and as I saw the plane circling above us, we knew that he was popping the question to her as we waved frantically and excitedly! Lucky for us, he videotaped the whole thing so we later saw it from her perspective as well and it was absolutely amazing!!! What a memorable and wacky way to propose, huh?

There was the guy from California who went sky diving free-fall, then landed on bended knee next to his girlfriend and whipped out the diamond engagement ring and asked her to marry him. Another guy from Ohio spelled out "Aleasha marry me?" in a wheat field, then took his girlfriend up in a plane to see it. As soon as she read it, he had the diamond engagement ring waiting and slipped it on her finger. There's a video going around youtube of a guy who proposes to his girlfriend on Disneyworld's Main Street – he has a whole music and dance performance set up with dancers and singers, and pulls the engagement ring out of a street sweeper's trash can, but it all seems a little staged… A funny proposal that was on the news not too long ago was a guy whose girlfriend was a diver that worked in an aquarium. He pulled out the ring, on the other side of the glass tank, when she was in full diving gear in the shark tank! She didn't get the engagement ring until after she got out of the tank though. I've heard of a marriage proposal on twitter but I'm not sure if that's true.

I think the wackiest and most flamboyant proposal I ever heard of is ordering a diamond-tini at the Ritz Carlton in Japan. As the name suggests, it's actually a martini with an extra touch – a diamond, that is. I heard of this guy ordering the diamond-tini after a luxurious dinner at the Ritz to the complete amazement of his girlfriend. The Ritz restaurant actually played the serenade of "Diamonds are Forever" in the background, while the waiter presented them with the loose diamond and dropped it into her drink. This over the top proposal set this guy back by about $15,000 USD, but the hotel also threw in the later mounting services of the loose diamond to his engagement ring setting. Let's just say, I really hope this lady said "yes"!

My friend probably has one of the most insane proposal ideas I've ever heard of and it's certainly a story to tell! His girlfriend is a very sound sleeper, and he always used to tease her about how she never wakes up from practically anything. Seriously, nothing seems to wake her up, not even the loudest noise or a really good shake! He decided to use this to his advantage, and waited one night for his girlfriend to fall asleep. He then carefully placed the diamond engagement ring he had bought her on her left hand finger while she was fast asleep. He anxiously waited until morning to see the look on her face when she woke up and saw what was on her finger! He said her face expression was absolutely priceless when she glanced at her watch to see what time it was and dropped her mouth down in disbelief at the sight of the diamond! She let out a shriek of glee and eventually, after calming down, she managed to say "YES!". What a way to start the day, huh?
