My girlfriend has never been to Paris, and I know she'd love to go. I thought of proposing to her there, but now that I come to think of it, it seems a bit clichéd, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, I have to disagree with the previous answers. I do think its completely overdone. While I'm sure she will be thrilled that you are declaring your love for her etc. Wouldn't it be better to come up with something original? Maybe still go to paris, but propose to her in a quiet, romantic little restaurant or to go to venice and propose during your private gondola ride? Just a thought.

Paris is known to be the most romantic city in the world, so why are you so hesitant to take your girlfriend there? I seriously don't understand why you seem so worried about whether it's a cliché or not, it's obvious that your girlfriend will just love it. The fact that you say she really wants to go and see Paris only reinforces the fact that you should definitely take her there! Even despite the fact that proposing on top of the Eiffel Tower has been done by so many couples already, it's still a magical place to propose and a great story to tell all your friends and family!

I personally couldn't be happier that my husband proposed to me on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris! My husband took me to Paris on a seemingly fortuitous romantic trip and we were there for about 3 days, doing all the normal sightseeing and touring around Paris. The ambiance of this city is so magically romantic, I can't even describe it! Think of it – you're at the most romantic city in the world, hearing the most romantic language in the world and seeing the most romantic landmarks in the world. What a perfect combination! My husband left the Eiffel Tower for our final evening in the vacation, claiming that he wanted to leave the best for last but little did I know at the time that it was all very carefully planned! We took the elevator to the very top floor of the Eiffel Tower and the view was absolutely breathtaking. I was so amazed by everything and was full of euphoria when suddenly my husband got down on one knee and proposed. I felt like the happiest woman in the world at that moment thoughts that this proposal was clichéd or tacky NEVER crossed my mind! Take my word for it when I say that your girlfriend would LOVE to share the story of how her husband proposed to her on top of the Eiffel Tower, just like I am right now! I think that it's the most romantic way to propose to a woman, and nothing could literally top it off!

Clichéd or not, that's exactly how Tom Cruise proposed to his wife, Katie Holmes. He took her to the famous Le Jules Verne restaurant located just on top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This restaurant has a beautiful panoramic view of the city, and it has a very romantic atmosphere. In my opinion, if it was good enough for Tom Cruise, it's good enough for you! What seems like a total cliché for one woman is actually a dream come to true to another, so bear that in mind!
