My girlfriend is an extreme sports junky. How can I incorporate her love of adventure with a proposal?

I'm planning on proposing and I want to do something special for the proposal, something which will be memorable. Since she loves sports and the great outdoors and was wondering how I could add a little excitement and adventure to my proposal.

I'd go for something a little less risky if I were you. I understand you wanting to make your proposal as special and as unique as possible, but proposing while sky diving or repelling seems a little too extreme to me. Not to mention that with these types of proposals you run the risk of losing the ring while in the process of proposing. I mean, tying an expensive engagement ring to her parachute pull? Have you considered taking her on a romantic helicopter ride instead and proposing while you're airborne? Proposals don't have to be wild and wacky in order to be memorable. A nice intimate dinner could be as great a setting for proposing as a mountain top would be.

Your girlfriend sounds like a really fun, active girl. As such, your proposal should match her adventurous personality. Why not take her sky diving, and propose while you're both soaring through the air. You could have your family and friends waiting for you at the landing point waving a sign that spells 'will you marry me?' You could even attach the ring to her parachute pull, that way she can't miss it while she's opening her parachute and preparing to land. Or perhaps, you could propose while repelling down a rocky mountain side, and have a celebratory pick nick lunch waiting for you, for when you finish your climb. Or you could take her on a crazy, extreme treasure hunt. You can leave her clues in all sorts of strange locations, which are hard to get to. The cache will be a diamond engagement ring, and when she pulls it out you can get down on one knee and propose.

Did you hear about the guy who recently tried to propose to his girlfriend on a hot air balloon ride in Ohio? Yep. He thought it would be a creative and romantic way to propose to his girlfriend, so he stuck the box in his camera case. Only that the camera case fell out mid-flight while he tried to pass it to a friend. He actually lost the one carat, princess cut engagement ring towards which he had been saving a part of his weekly check. The good news is that although it feel into the thick brush below, he actually found it over a week later when he mapped out its possible location with a friend and tracked down the camera case with the box and engagement ring inside. He finally proposed to his girlfriend the proper way, but I think the guy had more luck than smarts. So it's ok to try to do something unique, even adventurous, but geez, take the proper precautions.

I'm not so sure about the whole sky diving idea, it sounds a little too out there. When I was planning on proposing to my then girlfriend, now wife, I also wanted the proposal to be exciting and memorable. As it so happens, I'm a licensed light airplane pilot. I asked my wife to marry me while in flight! We celebrated the occasion with a bottle of champagne and an in-flight movie. There's an idea for you.
