When x-rayed what are the apparent difference in structure between a cultured and natural pearl?

I read somewhere that one way of distinguishing between a cultured pearl and a natural pear is by using x-ray. What are exactly the differences that could be spotted between the two types of pearls in this manner

As far as I know x-ray is used mainly to distinguish between real and nucleated cultured pearls, by viewing and examining the growth rings of the pearl.

A cultured pearl has a solid center without any concentric growth rings, whereas natural pearl posses a series of concentric growth ring, evident when using an x-ray.
