What is the difference between Akoya, South Sean, Tahitian and Freshwater pearls?

I'm confused. What are the different types of pearls? What re the differences between these pearls? Are the differences visible? Which pearls should I invest in? Which are considered the most valuable?

Akoya Pearls - This is the first cultures pearl type. Akoya pearl are considered a Japanese specialty, and have a stunning white color. Akoya peals resemble freshwater pearls, though the former are bigger, rounder and possess more luster. Akoya pearls are used in many different jewelry pieces.

South Sea Pearls - This type is especially round, big and smooth, and has a silvery color. South Sea Pearls are produced from large and rare oysters, making them also quite rare and expensive.

Tahitian Pearls - Tahitian cultured peals are black, though can be found also in silver and purplish colors. Culturing such pearls is a very complicated process, making Tahitian pearls very costy.

Freshwater Pearls - The most common of all pearls' types and the leasy expensive. Freshwater pearls are mostly cultured in China. They are round, white and used for earings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.
