Is it possible to have my old gold jewelry melted down so that I can keep the gold for when I want to make a new piece?

I have seen all of these advertisements for places that buy old gold jewelry, but nowhere that melts and returns the gold. I have lots of old and outdated pieces that I would like have melted down but I am not sure yet what I would like to make out of them. Is it possible to melt down my old gold pieces and to hold onto the gold until I find a design I like? How do I find someone to help me with this?

I'm sure you could melt them all down into some kind of block until you have use for it. You should speak to a jeweler or investor involved in gold trade, they would have the connections and know who is capable of such as task. However, you should expect to spend quite a bit of money doing this, mainly because most people do not melt their jewelry. In addition, when you decide to use it again, the gold we have to be molten and reforged, which is an expensive process as well.
