What are grey gold alloys?

I don't understand if grey gold is the same thing as white gold. Because white gold is actually basically greyish or silvery in color, so I don't really understand the difference between the two, if there is any. A friend at work told me that her new earrings were made of a grey gold alloy, but they look just like white gold to me.

There is certainly a difference between gray gold and white gold. White gold is a mixture of pure yellow gold with either palladium or nickel. Grey gold is a mixture of yellow gold with silver, copper and manganese. The effect is sort of similar, but not exactly. Grey gold is a little more matte that white gold, which is really light and shiny looking. Grey gold jewelry is not very common.

Grey gold are usually 18k gold jewelry items. Grey gold also consists 1-10% silver, 7-15% manganese and 3-15% copper.

Grey gold is made by adding silver, manganese and copper in specific proportion to gold.
